KHULANI SIGNS QUALITY PLEDGE

  • September 30, 2017

Khulani Timber Industries has become the second company to sign our Quality Pledge, and the company’s CEO, Mark Tullis, has appealed to other timber treaters to follow suit.

Signing the pledge strengthened the company’s commitment to providing quality poles to its clients throughout Africa and to environmental sustainability, said Mark.

“Being committed to quality means that as a company there is always room for improvement,” he said. “The pledge is a statement from management that will have a ripple effect to all employees to refocus on our current high standards and to take a leap forward.

“We sometimes cannot see the wood for the trees, and this pledge will assist to focus on issues that sometimes are taken for granted. Hopefully other treating plants will sign in an attempt to enhance the industry as a whole.”

The pole industry will always be attacked by competitors promoting their alternative products, said Mark. A major advantage of CCA-treated timber is that it is cost-effective, but the entire industry is let down when inferior poles are slipped through to customers.

“Our industry is under pressure with regards to environmental, legislative and quality issues,” Mark observed. “If we all commit to making a difference and show a positive attitude to our individual plants, the treating industry will be seen as moving in the right direction to ensure a sustainable industry for the generations to come.”

Khulani has come a long way with Dolphin Bay, and working with our sales representative has always been a pleasure, Mark said. “His experience and knowledge will only assist us and other treatment plants that would like to commit to this pledge.”

The industry is also very fortunate to have the South African Utility Pole Association (SAUPA) to assist, he said. “In working with Dolphin Bay and SAUPA, we really can make a difference to the industry.”

Bertus said that the Quality Pledge was partnering with companies that take quality seriously, “and Khulani is definitely one of them”.

“Khulani is the perfect customer to join. It has been in the industry for a long time, is well respected, and is always striving to do things properly. They can now be recognised for this effort,” he said.

“It is very encouraging that more and more customers are seeing the value of the Pledge programme, which we are now rolling out for the companies that have signed up.

“We are very happy that Khulani sees the value in the programme.”
